About Us

March 27th, 2007 by David

We are the IEEE-AESS (Aerospace and Electronics Systems Society) Missouri University of Science & Technology Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Team. We will be competing in the Search and Rescue Challenge in Australia in September 2008. The goal of the competition is to build a UAV that will autonomously fly to a search grid, find a missing person, deliver a bottle of water to the missing person, and return to the ground station.

We are one of the few student branches of IEEE-AESS and we are located in Rolla, MO. This student branch was founded with a great deal of help from Jim Leonard the national Chair of AESS. Our current UAV team is composed of four Electrical Engineers and two Aerospace Engineers. We began working on the project in February of 2007, and the competition is September 23th-25th 2007 in Kingaroy, Queensland Australia.

Special thanks to Jim Leonard for all of his help in creating this student chapter of AESS, and for all of the funding AESS has provided to the UAV Team.
