
Phnom Penh — Acting Head of State Hun Sen yesterday received Sir Konstantin Novoselov, Nobel Laureate in Physics (2010) and President of the Academy of Engineering Sciences, Singapore (AESS), during an official courtesy call at the Senate Palace.
During the meeting, both sides held in-depth discussions on advancing cooperation in engineering sciences, technological innovation, and talent development. Sir Konstantin Novoselov briefed Hun Sen on the mission of AESS and outlined several international initiatives focused on promoting cutting-edge engineering research, sustainable technology solutions, and high-level training programmes across Asia.
Hun Sen expressed his appreciation for Sir Konstantin’s long-standing contributions to global scientific advancement and welcomed AESS’s intention to collaborate with Cambodia. He stated that Cambodia is entering a crucial stage of industrial upgrading and green transformation, and highly values partnerships with leading international engineering institutions.
Both sides explored opportunities to establish joint research mechanisms, facilitate exchanges of engineers and students, and co-host science and technology forums. Sir Konstantin Novoselov noted that AESS is ready to support Cambodia in areas such as smart infrastructure, renewable energy engineering, and engineering standards.
Following the meeting, Hun Sen and Sir Konstantin toured the science and technology exhibition hall in the Senate Palace and took commemorative photographs.
Earlier in the visit, Sir Konstantin Novoselov and the AESS delegation also met with officials from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, and visited local universities and industrial parks to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration in engineering education and applied innovation.
